City & Nutrition is the youngest and smallest department at the Institute for Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning (ILAUP). Run by Prof. Katrin Bohn, it has been set up in April 2010 to better respond to the growing interest in food producing urban landscapes. By creating the department, the TU Berlin is one of the first academic institutions worldwide to have established a dedicated research platform for the subject of urban food systems at the interface between planning, the environment, architecture and landscape design.

City & Nutrition engages in the national and international discourse about the design and planning of productive urban landscapes whose defining feature is the integration of areas for urban agriculture. The department uses design research as its main research method and regularly publishes, exhibits and lectures on its findings. As a basis of its work, City & Nutrition uses a body of quantifiable and qualitative research that has been (and still is) generated around the concepts of Continuous Productive Urban Landscape (CPUL) and CPUL City, developed by André Viljoen and Katrin Bohn since the year 2000.

City & Nutrition works in close cooperation with the Department of Landscape Architecture / Open Space Planning run by Prof. Undine Giseke at the same institute and contributes to the teaching at ILAUP in general.
